Handel’s penultimate and most emotional oratorio on an early Christian female saint tells a moving story of the tragic clash between the new and the old, and the enmity towards the weak and the different.

As Didymus, the oratorio stars US/Swiss countertenor Terry Wey. Suggested as one of the world’s best vocalists of his genre (FonoForum), Terry Wey calls Didymus one of his absolute favourite roles.

The concertmaster of the Haapsalu Festival Baroque Orchestra is acclaimed Finnish violinist Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch, whose international career includes long-lasting collaboration with  Philippe Herreweghe among others. Kaakinen-Pilch is also warmly remembered in Haapsalu for her recital on violin and viola d’amore at the 2019 edition of the Festival.
