Songs from Scotland and England
A unique duo will make music together at the Haapsalu Early Music Festival on July 27 – the soprano Maria Valdmaa from Holland and Mikko Perkola, a Finnish viola da gamba player and improvising artist. Both musicians have performed in Haapsalu before with various ensembles, but this is their first collaboration as a duo. They will perform „Aberdene 1662“, a program based on a rediscovered Scottish songbook from 1662 that the duo has worked on exclusively for the Haapsalu festival. It is the first time that seventeenth-century Scottish secular songs will be performed in Estonia. Mikko Perkola’s improvisations will ornament the songs.
